Hi, I have a Alfa 156 station wagon on a y reg 2001, The car is a 1.6 twin spark and it is kerrrrnakered!
i have chance of a cheap alfa 156 on a y reg but it is a 1.8 ts, Will this engine and box go into the sw ok or will the ecu or immobiliser, drive shafts etc need changing
Any info off you guys would be a great help, Also the donor car will be broke for spares if anything required, Regards Colin
You will want the lot i'm affraid, Engine, ecu, loom. You could swap the boxes as the will fit. I think the driveshafts are different too. Best just take the whole front subframe and swap them over. Would save a lot of time.
Hi Joss,
thanks for the quick info, I will just change the full running gear, will proberly change struts aswell, save the hassle later!
As you say change the wiring do you just mean the engine loom or is it all 1 piece unit? regards colin.
the car is worth doing, it is a lusso with only 52k miles on it and its immaculate, Dont mind spending the 80 quid on it for the belt change. Any how it will keep me away from the mrs for a year or two
Hi Biffa,
I am not sure what happened to the car, I bought it misfiring on cyl 1 and 4 for a project, I suspect the belt has snapped and the previous owner has just tryed a new belt, I have thought of doing this but not sure what to do, A recon head about £300? then gaskets, bolts etc, i think it would be easier to change the hole lump and maybe a little cheaper.
Dodgy loom or dodgy coil packs, possibly bent pins n the ECU socket.
But back to the swap, in theory it's ok to do it, except that the 1.8 has a VIM and the 1.6 doesn't so either swap all the engine, loom, ECU, Code box and key chip OR just the block and use the original manifold and ecu etc.
As for the gearbox, if you go to the 1.8 you'll need the box as the ratios are different and you'll just be wasting fuel if you dont.
