147 air cond water leak on passenger carpet

I have been searching for posts on this topic and water on the front passenger floor seems to be a fairly common problem with 147s. I haven't found any documented solutions to the problem so would appreciate any wisdom on this problem. We love driving the 147 but are getting tired of the damp smell and having to dry out the carpet after using the air.

The car is a 2002 147 and the carpet gets wet after driving with the auto air con on for an hour or so. I think there is a blockage in the a/c drain somewhere and it appears to be leaking near where the pipe passes through into the engine compartment at the back of the a/c heater unit. Some water does drip from the a/c drain in the engine compartment when parking the car after a drive, so it is not totally blocked. I have checked for blocked sunroof and wiper area drains and they appear to be flowing freely. The floor gets wet when driving in dry weather so I am fairly certain it is not caused by rain water leaking into the car.

Any thoughts or experiences with fixing this problem are welcomed.

Update: Problem fixed
The condensed water pipe from the air conditoner is very short and horizontal where it comes through the bulkhead into the engine bay. I thought the leak may be due to water coming out of the pipe, running back along the outside of the pipe and then be leaking through the rubber seal and into the cabin. This fitted with where the wettness appeared to be originating. I used some plastic hose to slide over the exit pipe and a right angle joint piece for home garden irrigation so it is turns downwards instead of being horizontal. I used some silicone sealer to seal the connection. Its been 4 weeks now and the carpets have remained dry!

I accessed the drain pipe from in the engine bay, leaning over the mudguard.
It is well hidden!

I cut away some of the sound deadening material to make it more accessible and then cut a slot in the rubber piece that covers the actual pipe.
You can then feel the pipe outlet when you poke your finger into the slot.
I used a piece of black plastic irrigation pipe 19mm internal diameter and it fitted neatly over the pipe. It only needs to extend out about 5-7cm.

It stills continues to work like a charm. Good luck with fixing your leak.

I know its old but can you bless me you a pic ?

I have the same problem water on passenger floor and my mechanic friend says the water comes through the door or mudguard but Im not so sure, plus he bent the passenger floor with his jack instead of using the proper lift locations, he says it had nothing to do with it but I dont want it to be true because I want to trust him even though...

Hi, it has been 9 years since I posted this fix and my 147 has been gone for along time. I have no pictures as it wasnt commonly done back then! You need to find the place on the bulkhead where the a/c drain comes through into the engine bay. I found it by running the engine with the air con on and eventually condensed water started to come out of the drain. It is fairly well covered by the soundproofing so takes a while to find where it is. The problem is that drain pipe is too short and water runs back along the outside of the pipe and into the cabin where it runs down and wets the carpet. Once you find it just follow my instructions. Good luck

I fixed mine around 9 years ago as a result of this forum and stu53's post. Some years later someone asked a similar question and whilst I didn't have photos either, my description of the location seems to have been pretty accurate.

The car is still in the family and the fix is still there.

This is a link to my post with the description of the location.

Good luck with fixing yours.
