OK ... so I have just spent a whole day working on the car, and thought everything would be sweet ... but NO ... more problems.

When driving the car, there is a grinding sound coming from somewhere ... but this only happens when under 3,000rpm ... and doesn't matter what gear it's in. The sound is kind of like a metal pipe being dragged along the ground.
Now, I have checked everything that I can think of:
1. All interior panels secure and not rattling
2. Exhaust heat shield not moving but have bent further away from exhaust just in case
3. Coolant and engine oil topped up

Any ideas for other things to look out for would be appreciated.
Also, how do I check the gear-box oil??

yeah check the bottom ball joint protector shield. It quite often gets bent into the disc causing a metalic rubbing noise.

Its just to see if there is play in the ball joints and bearings. Give the wheel a tug at the top and bottom and see if you can feel any play.

More likely to be one of these..... Sorry. I blame 0of0 for leading me on with his sense of humour!

Took the car to a "European Specialist" who started telling me how when a car overheats, the pistons can shrink and cause severe slapping against the bore ... don't think I will be going back there!

Anyway, will be putting the car on stands tonight, so will check the ball joints and bearings, as well as gearbox oil and compression testing. Perhaps also going to go through every possible piece under the car just to make sure everything is tight and can't rattle.
