GT seat cable snapped, how much?

Hi all, on Sunday had a stinker of a day, went to watch Wednesday get dumped back into League 1 and then just to rub it in as my mate tried to extricate himself from the back seat the passenger side handle for the tilt went all floppy. AARRRGGH!

Anyway I'v had this happen on my previous car and it involved getting inside the seat upholstery to attach a new cable so a definite garage job. Others on here seem to have had this done under warranty, no such luck for me. Anyway anyone know what the cost will be for this to be professionally done?

Or if you know of a homespun way would be interested to hear how its done.

Cheers

I can't help with a fix but should you have the same problem again at any time then push back the headrest slightly at the same time as pulling the handle as this seems to ease the tension on the cable.

hi ,cant help on cost to have done, but had to do this on mine the cable was about £14 i think and i did it myself ,involved taking the seat out after un-plugging air bag connectors ,carefully removed the rear panel on seat ,unclip where leather fits to the seat frame then worked the leather up the back of the seat, the cable runs across the top of the seat then down the side by the arm rest/console the cable has a cable tie holding it in place on a small bracket in the centre of the seat, cut this and put another on when re-fitting new cable ,either end of cable is self explanatory really ,top end comes connected complete with lever ,took about an hour once got head round it.hope this helps.ash

Thanks for all replies. Interesting Gnasher. How tricky was it to put the seat back together after disassembly? Not sure Iv quite got the stomach for extricating the seat myself. What tools are required?

Iv had a couple of quotes from alfa specialists. A bit of a variety Alfa Technico say £80 and and alfa workshop more around the £120 mark.

So taking Gnashers estimate for time + a bit for fiddling and parts £80 sounds about right.

Hi mate ,seat went back together like it's never been touched, comes out with allen key fixings ,like you say need the stomach for pulling the leather /cloth about, then just a case of sorting the clips out that hold it to seat frame for this you only really need long nose pliers, screwdriver, not beyond a total novice by any means ,if your a practical sort of guy you'll be fine if your not then pay your money for peace of mind ,dont want to talk you into it ,shame your that far from me ,i'd do it for ya,good luck let us now what you decide to do or how you get on,
