Hi all, my daughter bought a 156 TS for herself (with a little help and a lot of encouragement), however, we already have some issues. The car has been over-serviced for most of it's life (up to 110,000kms) at authorised Alfa Dealers, only the last service was at a non alfa service centre. The seller advised us that the selespeed fluid was getting low (as it had not been topped up at the last service). I have owned several Alfas, but all manual, so have no idea what the symptoms of selespeed problems are.
Last Friday, I reversed out of the car park at work and had difficulty getting reverse to select a few times.
I drove about 200m down the road and the car went into neutral and the red selespeed warning light came on. I could select no gears. I switched off and restarted, the selespeed light remained on but it selected first gear, then went into city on its own.
I finished the trip to the suspension place, (about 1km), and when there we could not select reverse as the selespeed started in city.
The selespeed fluid was lower than min, so I had a bottle couriered to me and topped it up, slightly past max. Nothing changed.
Returned to work in city mode and tried everything I could find on line.
Charged the battery, reset the ECU, even bled the selespeed fluid from the top of the gear box (under the battery).
Reset the ECU again (went through the whole procedure)
Have tried selectng gears repeatedly, no change, checked and cleaned all relays, connectors, etc which are accesible without stripping the car.
Took it to a friend's service centre and connected their diag computer (not AlfaDiag) and the unit said two faults were logged on the engine ECU - Water Temp Sensor and Second Fan?
Marelli Selespeed Diag said no fault logged or detected.
Reset and cleared all faults - no change.
Still driving only in city mode
Still showing red selespeed light and starting in city.
Everything else seems as normal, including the persistent intermittent faint bzz bzz sound that seems to eminate from the driver's door area.
ANY IDEAS - PLEASE ?
I have downloaded Alfa Diag, but cannot source a a cable locally - and need to get the car transferred by the end of this week, but can't transfer it without a roadworthy, and can't get a roadworthy without reverse ? Help Please.
Thank you in advance.
