OK had a look around on here and just want to double check some stuff.

Was driving back from lake district last night and the smaller tensioner pulley on my aux belt (which had been whining for a while to be honest) collapsed and shredded the belt.

the front tensioner pulley and the idler pulley rotate nicely with no noise etc and are lovely and smooth.

can i just change the auto tensioner at the back?

Is it as simple as i think (HOPE!) it is?

i did one on my vectra 2.0 a couple of years back which was a matter of fit spring arm tensioner pulley thing, new belt on, pull the pin out and away we go !

is the alfa the same?

its deffo that rear pulley, there is 4-5mm lateral play in it and its rough as hell when rotating.

any special tools needed to make life easier? and as the front tensioner won't have been touched the autotensioner should just sort itself out right? (PLEASE GOD !)

I would say change all tensioner + idlers but thats just me...
By the sound of it they were not changed in the last cambelt/aux belt change.
If you decide to do only the tensioner a big size spanner does the trick (don't remember the size) but you risc having problem with the idlers before the next cambelt change.
Is it a 10 or 20V and how many miles ?

Its a 02 plate 10v 150 bhp with 82,000 miles. Cambelt was done at 76K.
so they prob havev't been done
In all honesty the amount of miles that i rack up (24,000 a year at least) i'll hang on for now as i am skint and that stupid bloody part is gonna be £120 as it is ! the 2 other ones look pretty new compared to the auto tensioner so maybe they just did the cheap ones lol

I'll change them as and when they start being problematic - i tend to have a keen ear and did notice the tensioner pulley making noise about a month back and have been ignoring it (DOH !)
