Hi guys, after a bit of advice - the back box on my standard exhaust is holed so has a bit of a blow to it. I'm after advice/opinions on where to go for a replacement. I'm not too keen on the big pipe/loud noise kind so a decent straight replacement for the standard factory box would be good. Does anyone know if there is a stainless version like that available, or is my best bet a trip to Kwikfit?

Thanks in advance

Nick

Iron Wizard, I just had a standard Timax cat back system fitted at National Tyres in Trafford for £190 and a 3yr warranty.......not sure where abouts you are but if you use my quote when you ring them they might match it for you!!!

I used to have a powerflow exhaust system on my car (had it nearly 5yrs) I just seemed to get louder and louder with time (maybe my baffles inside had collapsed)....a trip down south lastweek was a nightmare the noise was unbearable and the icing on the cake to get rid. Now my car is sooooo quiet and at least I can hear the whoosh of my CDA BMC induction it now....lol

To be honest Iron Wizard, my Alfa Indie garage told me if am going to buy a bog standard exhaust I should only go for Timax or Walkers. Yup back box would be cheaper....I think shop4parts on the net sell original back box for £89.

If you do a lot of motorway mileage and travel a fair distance...........then after my experience if you do go for stainless steel try make sure the back box is not too boomy....long distance on motorway is torture!!!! ;)

Anyway, hope this helps you....

Yep that's the standard mild steel - they generously include fitting & VAT as well.....None in stock though so I have to wait (if I decide I want it) and they want a deposit before bringing the stock in...

Luckily I can work a socket set a bit so I might go for a stainless one and fit it myself. Of course it'll all go wrong and take 6 hours, with the rain starting just after I get the spanners out..

Talking of online prices, Alfa Workshop in Royston lists the standard mild steel at £115 incl VAT but (I guess) excl fitting, whereas Veloces in London list at £103.40 incl VAT with an extra £32.50 + VAT for fitting... I've not had experience of either but the variation in prices is more than I would expect.

Can't complain too much though, I've had the car a year and all I had to do was new battery (in March), brake light bulb (in November) and now the exhaust. Not exactly a money pit so far....

You can get pattern back boxes from ebay for around £65, and that does include the VAT.

I need to get one for my car in the near future.

I have used ebay Zorsts a few times and the quality is comparable to the ones you get in the local exhaust place, which is good but not as good as the original.
