I had the gear box replaced (secondhand) and a new clutch a few weeks ago, and have just had the car in another garage for some suspension work and they tell me the gearbox is leaking oil. It wasn't before the gearbox change as they had a look at it and said they didn't do gearboxes, so they would have remembered if it was there before. The garage that replaced it say it is normal for an Alfa.
Advice please! The gearbox has a six month warranty.
In my opinion no oil leakage is good especialy from a gearbox I would check all bolts are in place and tight at the very minimum, dependant on where the leakage is. If it is a faulty gearbox the warrantly will probably only cover the gear box not the labour time involved, also I cant rember if the garage is responsible due to using a second hand fit.
It is not normal. Gearboxes should not leak and if it is then there is probably a chance major box failure if you run it too long, did this second garage point you in the direction of the area where the leak was from?
