Head could be soft after skimming

As from previous threads my TS is having the headgasket done this week. I had a call from the mechanic yesterday to tell me that there is good news and bad news. The good news is there are no cracks in the head, the bad news is that the head was a bit of a banana and that have to skim so much of to get it flat they can not guaranty it from going soft.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Are the saying that they have had to skim so much off in some places that the cross-section of the head is now thin to such an extent that upon refitting it will warp?

How much have they removed?

Not sure how much has been removed, the only thing I have been told is that if there is a problem it will only occur when bolting the head back down (Gasket compresses into the head) or if it over heats, which it shouldn't considering it has a new radiator and water pump, I would have thought that the mechine shop would have kept it in tollerance or is that just wishful thinking!

Dont really want to distirb the mechanic again today as he is in the process of putting it all back together and he said it might be ready for tonight, which I am sure it means I will see it on tuesday :)

Picking up a 2nd-hand head shouldn't be too difficult .. try Autolusso. Take a straight edge to it and check it's flat first though.
