Hi,
My 156 is about to have a new clutch slave cylinder fitted and possibly a new clutch as well.
I have seen a company by the name of Rapid Car Parts trading on Ebay and they quote a price of £166 (for a 2 into 1 clutch kit) and about £70 for a slave cylinder.
Do these prices seem reasonable? and has any one out there has had experience of them or can recommend a supplier.
The gearbox has to come off to change the slave so it would be daft not to replace the whole clutch whilst it is apart unless the car has done a very low mileage.
Looks like they are a motor factors ... there normal web site is showing the 2-in-1 as QH part so it should be fine. The ebay price is a lot less.
Buypartsby is also a motor factors so parts will be similar spec and quality .. could even be QH.
Rapid show three different clutches on their site: 3-in-1, 2-in-1 and CSC (all QH part numbers) ... anyone know what the difference are apart from the prices: £171, £186 and £223
In the end I used E.B.Spares,The Alfa Romeo Parts centre, in Westbury Wiltshire.
They provided excellent service and have my recommendation.
The parts were Valeo and total price, including VAT and next day delivery, was £212.08.
At the same time the thermostat was replaced (temperature gauge not moving, heater lukewarm) which cost £39.09 (QH)from Rapid Car Parts.Temperature fine now.
The clutch pedal is still not quite right,it has at times too much free play and needs pumping a few times and this seems to clear it. Perhaps bleeding or possibly the master cylinder.I shall check it out.
Thanks again for a very helpful forum
An update following the clutch change.
I investigated and thoroughly bled the hydraulics with no improvement in pedal pressure.
My mechanic checked it out and felt it was not the master cylinder that was the problem.
The clutch was removed again and he discovered that the (new,Valeo) slave cylinder had disintegrated. Fortunately the other parts were undamaged.
A replacement slave cylinder was fitted and the clutch is now operating as it should and the pedal is featherlight.
Quality control problem I wonder?
QH aren't well regarded by a few of the mechanics I work with, although I don't have any first hand experience of them. We only use Valeo clutch components, they are the makers of the genuine Alfa clutch parts as well.
Does anyone know of any guides on the forum for removal of clutch? I am having to do one myself
