Hi, ran into a problem the other day... As I got to my car leaving work I put some bags in the hatch, everything was normal... worked fine... when I got home and tried to open the hatch the remote worked (the lights flashed and I heard a sound) however not a normal sound and the hatch wouldn't open, tried the center console same thing happened and so now I can't open the hatch, had to lower the rear seats...

heard something about manually opening the hatch but can't find anything, I think the motor broke down... does anyone know how to open the hatch would appreciate any advice... thanks... ;)

I hope this fixes it as if not its the ECU :|
New ECU because the boot doesn't open ???
Where did you get that idea ???
It happend to me, the latch that realeses the boot was on the wrong side of the catch due to lack of grease.
Did solve the problem going in from the inside and with 2 screw drivers managed to realese it.
Is your selenoid working ?
Can you hear the selenoid working/klicking in the boot when you press the remote ?
If you can hear it then the chances are the latch is on the wrong side of the catch.

Dan at Autolusso thinks it the selenoid so I ordered a new lock part to find out. I have had one Alfa engineer tell me it could be the body computer but it strange that only the boot will not open and another car engineer that works mainly on Fiats recons its teh ECU.
When I press the boot unlock button the side lights flash but I get nothing from the boot lock.

Well I replaced the celonoid and the lock and it still wont open. I press the key button or the dash button, the side lights flashes and I hear a ticking from the fuse box. My 147 has an auxillery fuse box to the right of the accelerator pedel, I checked the fuse marked as electronic boot something and that fine. I do think though that this cradle could be the problem, I have no idea how to take it out to see if a wire has come loose. My car is a bit of a bone shacker.

Can anyone else offer any help?

My loan 147 yesterday was the same - one minute it worked fine the next it didn't! No noise coming from the solenoid at all.

I hope mine doesn't go the same way. I have a intermittant (not frequent) fault with my central locking but by disconnecting the battery it cures it.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it (giving it 5 minutes to rest)?
It's amazing what a battery disconnection can do!

You could just replace the relay , if it is at fault then replacing it should solve your hatch problem .

I'll have a look on my car to see if I can find it , then I 'll post a picture indicating which one it is ( if I find it )

Just hope the pre-face-lift is the same as the face-lift in regards to relays.

Had the same with my SW, could hear the click but nothing. Sprayed everything with WD40, especially the two plastic sliders on the catch and all was well. Not sure if the 147 is similar to the SW though.

Thats what I am currently doing to get into my boot!

As for the WD40 spraying, Is that really a working solution? And if so, where do I spray it?

If anyone can point me or show me where relay is I recon this could be my problem. Also any one know how much it would cost to replace?

If I can only fix this little problem I will be happy with my car again!:tut::confused::cry::cheese:

Right, the saga continues!
Found the relay is, attached to the aux fuse box. That makes a double tick noise when activated and measured 12v in the wires going into the solenoid. The solenoid does nothing, not movement at all.

Arrrrg etc....

No idea what do do next!

IT HAS BEEN FIXED!

After a lot of swearing and fault finding I can happily confirm it was the relay at fault. It was not creating the connection properly. Thank to Dan at Autolusso for getting the parts to me so quickly (they are a good bunch there!)

So steps taken from start:

Tested both old and new solenoids on workbench with 12v supply, both working as they should.
Tested Voltage to the solenoid when pressing key button. 12v was found but only 0.32amp was getting to it. Not enough ampage to start the solenoid.
Took relay out and run 12v through it, beep tested the circuit and found nothing beeped (the relay is not making the connection)
Installed old solenoid and jumped the two connection where the relay plugs in, THE BOOT OPENED! this tells me that the wireing is ok.
Took apart the relay and sprayed it with wd40, left for 20 mins and re tested on the bench. it started to get a beep but was very intermitant.
Phoned Autolusso and ordered a new relay
The next night I absent mindedly pressed the boot release button to get into the boot and the bugger opened.
shut
open
shut
open
shut
open

WOOO

I replaced the selonoid with the one AutoLusso sent this morning and am very very happy to report it working again.

It took 3 blokes and a volt meter a few days to do what 2 garages wanted a very large sum of money to do.

Chuffed? Just a bit!

I now have a brand new 147 facelift read lock and selonoid for sale for £40 plus P&P if anyone is interested.

Which relay?

Thanks for helpfull info everyone as I have a failed boot release too. Just removed and checked all lock and plunger thing mechanism which is fine. I only get a relay click on pressing remote or indash button. Can anyone tell me which relay it is as I cant see any numbers on them... suppose what I really need is a diagram.....

The relay in mine was connected to the AUX fusebox down by the driver right foot (above and to the right of the accellerator) it slids up and you can take it out easily. Open the sealed relay and spray it with wd40, close again and leave for an hour or so, that might just fix it.

Good luck

Ha! Found the problem after trawling through another thread someone said that the controlling ecu was in the drivers door electric window switch unit. I thought nah...cant be.... but 2 mins later pulled out and pushed connections home.... all is well again.
Good thing this alfa forum!

thanks everyone for your help... found out that my problem was the solenoid... it has a corkscrew like plastic bit which hits the actual lever to unlock the boot which had broke... getting a piece to replace it now and hopefully everything will go back to how it was... ;)

Ps: still couldn't find in my manual where to open the hatch from the inside, but have already opened it... ;)
