Guys, quick one. I am having the head gasket done this week on a 1.8TS CF3, it currently has a water pump with a plastic impeller fitted, should I change this to a metal one? The water pump is origianl I presume and has done 61K
The original pump in my TS 156 had a metal impellor. As far as I am aware the 1.8 and JTS use the same pump.
It does look like plastic at a glance but it is anodised aluminium.
I replaced it with a Magnetti Marelli pump and that also had a metal impellor.
The original pump I took off and had done 114k and still looked perfect, I wouldn't bother changing it unless it is leaking or feels rough when you turn it.
Cheers for the advice guys, the unit was only £35 and its not going to cost me any additional cash to fit, so I got one ordered. Can't wait to get the car back on the road, it killing me being without a car for 10 days.
