First of all, many thanks over the past few months for some useful pointers and insights into GT ownership.
I finally got a GT last week after about 18 months of deliberating. Up until last month it was definitley going to be a 3.2 but as i do approx 18k per year the head won over the heart and i got a JTDm. So far i love it, looks stunning (when clean!) in Moon Blue, excellent economy - giving 45mpg on a 200 mile to work up the A1, great seats & practicality.
The only downside is that i've now got a squeak from behind the dash on the OSF. I'll be giving the Alfa Workshop a call tomorrow to book it in..........!
Nice looking car Ian, I did the same 4 weeks ago and bought an '07 plate JDTM too, so far no niggles and it certainly brings a smile to my daily drive.
Thanks KendalBeefcake & Red Kite. I'm planning to run it for a couple of months (due to depletion of ching!) and then look at an Angel map, FSD's & eibach roll bars as the std ride can be a bit crashy. A bit further down the line maybe a Q2?.
One question i have though is how far do you have to press your clutches down to engage gear?. Mine has to go virtually all the way to the floor to engage with the bite point only being about 15mm from there when released?. Does this mean a new clutch and Q2 are first on my cards!?. The car has done 42,000miles.
A very nice looking car Ian....great colour:thumbs:
Ref the clutch....mine was doing the same thing last year...the slave cylinder was bled, but in the end I needed a new one. Did you buy the car from a dealer?? If so, as you have only just taken delivery, I would expect the item (if that is the problem) to be paid for by them, even though it's probably classed as wear and tear.
Hi Ian welcome to GT world , apparently the squeak coming from behind the dash is common and is usually due to upper wishbone bushes being worn . No idea how much this costs to sort out but may be a direction to point your garage towards . Cheers .
I reckon you can tell if its a top joint. A light squeak is top joint, heavier creaking/knock bottom joint. BUT - the one behind the dash is often the engine stabiliser, top left of engine. Check rubbers carefully to see if they are broken or cracked. Mine looked almost ok till it was removed. When replaced you have to pull the bar toward you (or is it push away!) or it can still squeak and its right behind the dash.
Thanks for your comments & pointers, i did'nt get a chance to call the garage today regarding the squeak but will do tomorrow. Sparkywills1, i will certainly try that route with the supplying dealer but failing any success, what sort of cost would a slave cylinder be fitted?
I think its located on the end of the gearbox like the V6 units are, in which case, the part is about £35 or so, and it's a DIY job, with a mate to pump the clutch to bleed the system....or an hours labour.
