Hi folks just wondering at what mileage the cambelt on the 3.2v6 gt should be changed?

My car is a 2004 31,000 mile car.

The car books are full of servicing but not sure if the major belts have been changed.

Any idea the best way of my finding out are?

Checking who serviced it and phoning the relevant garages or is there an easier way?

Cheers

Alfa state every five years if under average mileage, as your car is......but some prefer every three years. Not really sure how you'd tell if it's been done without documented evidence though.....best get it to a specialist and get the belts done anyway, don't forget waterpump, all pulleys etc.

The 3.2 has a reputation for going through belts much earlier than Alfas recommended 5 years / 72k miles and it is recommended by most to change every 3 years / 36k miles.

Unless you have written evidence of parts or service history I would say that since yours has such low mileage that I doubt its been done and is due asap

I think you are missing the point that the belts are time based, not only mileage.

If the car is 6 years old then the belts are well over due, the 2.5 and 3.0 V6 are ok at 5 years without problem but the 3.2 V6 is not.

I'd definitely get it done too, I know it's easy for someone to say that as they are not paying for it but I wasn't sure about my cambelt so I bit the bullet and had it changed, and the piece of mind it gives you is worth every penny. You'll find you will never relax and keep thinking is my belt gonna go every time you go out in it.

Find a good independent specialist whatever you do. As a guide, for a cambelt, waterpump, plugs etc i think i paid £650 for my 2.5 V6. The GTA will be slightly more as there's less room to get the belt on and off.
Just please, please , please don't go to any old garage to get it done. They'll bugger it up and charge you more cos it'll take em bloody ages to do it.
If your in the midlands I can give you the name of an excellent indie specialist.

Ps, if your belt goes it'll cost a whole lot more than a new belt.

As well as the cambelt & tensioner make sure any quote also includes both idler pulleys and a waterpump (metal impellor type). These are NOT on the schedule so many garages will not include them in the quote unless specifically asked to.

Well worth changing the spark plugs at the same time as you have to take the plenum off to do the cambelt change.
