156 selespeed, was running fine! no gear box light on, now will not pull away unless you bring the revs up too around 4000 rpm !

Any help on this would be very gratefull !

does it look like this ?

that was my release bearing after 120k it went with a bang and left me stranded (in gear !)
in the overtake lane.... fellow motorists did not like me after that !

mad_dog - good work! Horrible job removing the gearbox isn't it... did you take off the Selespeed actuator (I did)... I still haven't actually got the gearbox out of the engine bay as the diff housing hangs up on the subframe, so at the moment it's sitting there, I had just enough room to get my rattle gun onto the flywheel bolts.

Sounds interesting - but can you post a bigger picture, please? I like to see the gory details.

I bought a new clutch including release bearing today, ready to install this weekend. I have my gearbox off and there didn't seem much wrong with the existing clutch - a bit worn but the release bearing still feels about like the new one, seems there is a certain amount of slackness but turns with a smooth greasy feel. Gearbox is really off so that I can get the sump off more easily and so I can fix the oil leak from a balance shaft core plug.

Although I wasn't really having any problems aside from a slight slip when changing down into 2nd gear, with an unknown history and 230,000km on the clock, I thought it would be a good idea to change my clutch anyway. Have just had the flywheel machined too, as it was in only average condition.

Given the usual wear on the diaphragm fingers, I wonder - is it ever possible to use the special clutch grease (that you apply to the splines) on the release bearing surface (the part that touches the fingers), or is that just going to end up in the friction material...?

Hi guys,

Gearbox back in, did not remove the actuator took the subframe off instead.

Needed to be able to do this on my own. its staight in and out with the box this way!

Now to the next bit, went to set clutch rod at 28mm as the thread on here shows, but to get this i would have to wind it off the threads ? BTW this was with alfadiag.

I have been able to set it to engage all gears with guess work any ideas ?

Thank God, yes it is Diag 3.3 ! Hoping you would see this as it was your thread i did this with, thanx very much, i know you are the top man on selespeeds so now being new to this i have got to figure out how the hell to send you a message ! LOL

Have you checked the clutch speed sensor yet? The upper one of the two sensors on the front of the gearbox (lower one is the reverse light switch). Check the sensor coil for continuity and inspect for signs of damage/remove adhered particles.

Hi guys,

Work this one out, left it running on the drive to warm it up. Went back to it 10 mins later it was fine! So i backed it in the garage stuck it on alfadiag ran EOL calibrate all that went ok.

Btw i checked clutch speed sensor before i removed the gearbox, it is perfect.

Just taken it for a run, did about 20 miles running perfect.

Just hope this problem does not come back.

Bit unhappy that alfadiag confused me with the clutch rod, why did i get this then have to set rod with my meter?
