I include myself in that statement because after reading for weeks/months on here I was convinced my MAF was screwed (hey it might still be!).

I didn't want to post too soon so I've left it for a couple of months, waited for the weather to change etc, but after my £25 Argos Cone Air Filter upgrade all my MAF issues/symptons have gone!

I'm not saying - go to argos and buy one - but I would suggest to check your air filter before parting ways with the best part of £100!!! :)

I saw an old toyota paseo (corolla) coupe the other day, 96 reg, it had a filter/induction kit, you know, a cone type thing on the intake, and it made a massive diff to the engine noise, pickup seemed to be very keen too.
does it make any power/economy differences?

maybe a more expensive version would (they all claim to at least) originally I got mine just for the slight extra noise (and it is a nice enhancement nothing chavvy!).

originally I was getting some coughing/spluttering/popping from the engine when cold at low revs with the original filter, and I went through everything I could which indicated the MAF, and on several occasions came close to ordering a new one.

just glad I changed the filter, it was making similar noises initially (and worse because it sits up nearer the MAF itself rather than down at the wheel arch) but these died off, now I'm left with a nicer sound and no "MAF issues" at all!!!

Only problem I've got now, is the nasty knocking sound under my car after hitting a pot hole! :(
