You'll need a diagnostic software to read and reset the fault, the later cars reset themselves.

If its an early model then it could well be the connector under the passenger seat, had this on both of mine after moving the passenger seat all the way back.

If the airbag light is on then AFAIK all your airbags are off

If its 2002 then I think that means the airbag light should automatically reset, you'd need to get the airbag fault code read so you know what is the cause

When the light is on airbag system is disabled if you plan to wiggle airbag wires disconnect the battery for ten minutes first beware some wiring faults can fire off the airbags when fiddled with.Very dangerous and rights off the car some times if you have shorted it airbags will go off when you reconnect the battery. The 10 year rule is alfa recommendation they say the system should be replaced after 10 years I have never met any one who has though the light only comes on when system detects a fault..

156 Airbag light

I have just had same problem and ended up getting mobile diagnostic bloke out. He pinpointed the fault to the air curtain activators. He showed me the ECU is self resetting on my Mk2 156 (54Reg).However Two days later, the light was on again so I rechecked the air curtain circuit and found two more connectors 1x yellow, 1x orange behind a small plastic cover on r/h side of boot. The Yellow one had become loose so I fitted cable ties around both connectors. I found that I needed to swicth the ignition on and off a couple of times to reset the ECU but everything has been fine since.

Re:drivers airbag light

Hi peter,i have just bought a 156 & had the same problem,i had a diagnostic ran on the car & it reported a fault on a contact under the drivers seat, the mechanic said they disconnected the contact, cleaned it & put it back & that solved the problem for me !! Hope it helps, stuart.

Had my airbag light reset 2x cost £35, light came back on a few days later.
I bought a round black sticker and placed it over airbag light, i'm not a fan of airbags anyway a few years ago
in a different car the airbags went off during a minor collision causing burns to my wrists and filled the car with
smoke. This was at 30mph the impact didn't hurt but the airbag did.
So i'm quite pleased if they are deactivated.
