The brake pads and discs need replacing. But I am finding many different disc sizes in the market for the same car. mine is a 04 plate 156 1.9 JTD.

for the front discs, I see 281mm, 284mm and 285mm outer dia.
I am confused as to which one to go for?

advise plsssss....

Thanks. I have now managed to buy the following...

Front Disc- Vented 284mm
Rear Disc- Solid 276mm

Front Pads- EBC Greenstuff
Rear Pads- EBC Standard

A local garage has quoted me £115 for labour only...thats 2hrs+.

However does it take 2hrs+ to replace brake discs and pads? How much should I be paying for?

30mins per corner doesnt seem bad to me. Especially if 1 person is working on it. 2-3mins to undo bolts. 15 mins to remove rusted bolts and remove pads from calipers and disc from hub, that are covered in crap, 10mins to refit pads into calipers and put disc on, 2-3 mins to put wheel back on tight.

u usually get pinged on labour as shops have trade pricing and expect to make a few bob on the parts...

2hr max is reasonable since you supplied the parts i would think, assuming they take their time and do things such as lube the pads and wire brush the hub after disc removal, torque to correct values on the caliper bolts and wheel nuts etc.. basically do a good slow job rather than rushed one..

Don't forget the rears need to be wound back in and that can take time even with the correct tools!
