Having recently purchased a MK1 156 2.4 JTD 10V 2000 reg, I have noticed that the alarm isn't working? When I first got the car both remotes were not working and the key in the door lock was being used. Both remotes are now working and the remote locking/unlocking works fine except no alarm? No beep, no indicator flash, no LED illumination, nothing. Is it possible that the alarm has be deactivated? If so, how can I reactivate? I've checked all the fuses. Some 156's have a key operated alarm deactivator switch above the fuse panel, mine doesn't. Any advice gratefully received ..

Re the key above the fuse panel. UK spec cars don't have that, so it is fine that it is missing!
Do you have red LED near the centre vent in the dashboard?

Have you tried locking it via the remote, then unlock the door with the key in the lock then open the door? Does an alarm do off if you do?

Another test is to leave the boot open, lock via the remote. The system will unlock the car straight away, but will leave the alarm armed (if there is one). Open the door, the alarm will go off (if there is one).

Thanks David C, yes there is a red LED near the centre vent in the dashboard. I tried locking via the remote, then unlocking by key. When door opened no alarm activated. Also left boot open, locked via the remote, it unlocked the doors immediately but didn't alarm armed (LED not lit). Just to be sure (faulty LED?) I opened the drivers door but no alram sounded ? Is the alarm and siren one unit or does the alarm sound the car horn? Also where is the alarm control unit located? Thanks.
