Ive got an 147 JTD 16v Multi Jet and love the car, unfortunately i keep getting little niggling probelms and have had a new one pop up tonight. When driving, i heard a sound coming from the left hand side which made a loud hiss sound. Then each time i went above 3000 revs the hissing sound comes back which sounds like a loud sucking sound. basically like air is being sucked out or sucked in, i cannot quite tell and in all honesty am useless when it comes to understanding cars.
Does anyone have any idea of what this can be as im reluctant to drive it over to an ***** specialist which is 20 miles away until im confident im not going to cause it any further problems????
Sounds like a turbo pipe - had this happen twice on GT - lift the bonnet and get someone to rev the engine gently - should be able to identify the problem - pipes seems to split for some reason. Relatively cheap fix.
Are you down on power? Could be the lower turbo pipe. They often split due to bad design as they rub on a bolt. If it is, give Autolusso a call for their silicone redesigned replacement pipe.
i lifted the engine and can def hear it the more you put your foot down but couldnt see anything that looked out of ordinary, and yes it doesnt have alot of power when driving. My thoughts were that it might be the turbo as there is no kick when you put your foot down
Is it an easy fix?
Sorry Rob3rto, what did you mean regards spelling???
Your car is an Alfa Romeo, not an Alрha Romeo (aargh I did it again!) - it's a small thing but means a lot to some people.
Almost bound to be a hose loose or split on the induction side as has been said. Check them all. (these are the big rubber hoses that run from the turbocharger) - relatively cheap fix. If it is loose, just refit. If it's split, temporarily fix with a decent amount of gaffer tape then get a new hose - as mentioned above.
Ahhhhhhhh #Cringe# Just realised, thanks for putting right!!!
Cheers i,ll give it another look in the morning when its light, is this something which any mechanic can fix or something i should stick to a specialist ALFA mechanic??
I have never personally owned an alfa diesel, but it seems that one of the hoses runs under the car, so that one might be hard to inspect without getting the front wheels raised on something (safely, and chocked before going under the car!)
