As mentioned briefly in another post of mine, on my 156 sportwagon the rear suspension is very low. I have checked the springs and shocks.... all seem okay (no broken springs) (shocks are firm). There is a slight banging when driving over certain bumps but not all the time. If anybody has any advice it would be most appreciated.

Depending on what spec you have the rear suspension is low on the SW, Do you have the Veloce ? I have just sorted my suspension, will post a pic soon to show. I can bearly get 3 fingers between the arch and the tyre, if that gives you an idea. Also I have the self levelling shocks.

Knocking on bumbs is often the anti roll bar bushes. You can polyflex it for about 25 quid

I had a similar problem with my sportwagon so after a bit of pulling the suspension apart i soon realised that the antiroll bar bushes where shot, in fact all my bushes for the rear suspension where shot, so polyflex the lot, but i was not happy with just polyflexing the lot, i did think that it has taken me a whole day just to get my suspension off (front and rear) that i would go the whole hog and change my shocks and springs for uprated ones, change top and bottom wishbones and changed all anti roll bar links (defo check these and wishbones as these are common faults for nocking noises and also MOT fails) Anyway what i am trying to get at is defo have it checked out by someone who knows what they are looking for as the suspension set up on alfa's is a very complicated system.
My moto is that if you are having to replace something then upgrade it for better that is if you can afford it. Just thought i would put a pic of mine so you can see what it looks like
