The person who has lent me their Alfa has taken it back to try and resolve the starter motor issue - when cold the engine starts fine instantly, but when hot it either turns over and won't start, or won't even turn over. It will always bump start down a hill or by being towed so it isn't an immobiliser issue - I guess this also rules out an earth fault if it does start OK when cold? The warm engine makes it stick and either turn too slowly to start or makes it stick full stop?
They couldn't find the starter today. I'm not 100% on their ability but hey ho, is there an idiots guide to tell them where it is?
I've seen a few posts where the motors have been removed, cleaned, and refitted and this has solved the problem - does this sound feasible?
Yesterday I got stuck 45 miles from home and waited an hour for the AA who checked the electrics out OK and ended up towing me to start the car so I can't really risk taking the car back for another fortnight (whilst my car engine is rebuilt) unless it is going to start reliably.
Cheers for any advice.
Chris
