147 heater control panel

Hi All,

Last year the heating packed up on my 147 at an inconveniently cold time of the year. The dealer I took it to advised it was the heater control panel hot/cold dial (its not the dual zone version) and it would be £500 to replace the unit.
However they were kind enough to jiggle something around behind the scenes so that I got heat, but this was now controlled by the directional dial, which was fine as a temporary fix.

I have managed to obtain a new panel from ebay and although Delphi part, S.W ,H.W and CSDI Fornit Fiat number are all the same (the Fxxxxx number is different and it was made 2 years after the original part) strange things happened when I connected it, the clock and mileometer start flashing, the temp reading disappears, the petrol gauge reads nil and the rear heater button doesnt seem to function, also the control panel lights stay on!!

I`ve had a search through the previous posts in respect of similar issues but I`m not really sure if Ive found an answer.

I was wondering
A) Would these units be compatible, they look identical, but could there be variances that mean theyre not?
B) One post on the forum suggested this sort of problem might relate to a dry joint - and if so what bit do I need to re solder?
C) What might the dealer have done to make the heating work...would it just be changing some of the wires on the connector? And if so does anyone know which wires I would swap back or should I just take it back and ask them to put it back to the original setting?
D) Another dealer suggested it was the heater directional control flaps and that I should replace all the motors (ooh another £500)! Although there was no issue with these prior to the initial loss of heat!

Hmmm not much to ask but me and my poor wallet would be eternally grateful for any advice offered, then I can get on fixing the other things that seem to have gone wrong as well!!!!

Many thanks
Si
