156 Head unit issue.

Heres my problem, I hope someone else has experienced this as its driving me mad!

I removed my standard blaupunkt stereo, and plugged in a Sony stereo that I have (and I know works).

Sony head unit comes on, plays radio, CD etc..... However there is NO SOUND from the speakers!

Is the alfa wiring loom in the dash configured differently to other cars? Do I need to swap some of the cables coming out of my head unit?

Thanks in advance?

Otis

Nope, didnt think i needed one.

Out of the back of the blaupunkt there were 3 blocks:

1.) Steering wheel control connector (Just left this one hanging)
2.) Power block - Plugged into Sony harness
3.) Speaker block - Plugged into Sony harness

In my experience, this is all I have ever had to do.

the alfa speakerwire ISO plug conforms with standard ISO wiring patterns. if the sony came with a harness that has ISO plugs, then it will be plug-and-play.

the powerwiring needs a slight change, to cater for alfa's non-ISO pattern.

the 3 mini-ISO plugs (blue/green/yellow) cater for CD changer/steering controls + telephone input/Bose amp, respectively. some may not apply to your car.

what model sony? some headunits (not sure about sony though) can have the internal amplifier turned off, meaning there'll be no output from the speakerwires unless activated.

is there Bose in this 156?

refer to the thread i wrote about installing into these cars for some more info:

The power wiring required a minor change, it powers on, and stores stations in memory fine.

Its just the speaker wiring that appears to be a problem, as there is no sound.

In other cars, this head unit is just plug and play!

Bloody alfas!

ah, well i presume the issue is that you have not connected up the trigger wire that switches the Bose amp on/off. with out it...err, the amp doesn't work.

locate the alfa's yellow mini-ISO plug. there is a single wire leading from this to the Bose amp. it requires a +12V trigger to turn the amp on. from the sony, connect up its 'remote output' wire (refer to the sony manual: it is the blue/white wire).

this is detailed in the link i posted above.
