New Exhaust

Wrote a long question and hot post but it doesn't seem to be here - starting again....shorter!

Noisy exhaust at front above undertray - split/hole in downpipe for sure; on top of that back box is rusted to hell. Plus most people here seem to think it is next to impossible to get the cat out separately without damaging it. Therefore, seems like I need a whole new system (except for manifold unless I am missing some understanding!).

Quick fitting team (helpful they were, promise - guys at Shinfield) sourced end to end for £595 fitted (at second attempt - first was £900!!). Eliminating all other factors (like whether they'll fit it properly and without breaking stuff) is this a decent price?

EB said they can only get the front pipe section from Alfa for £836 + carriage and VAT!

Alfa specialists 79 at haslingden quote £325 plus £25 delivery for full second hand system with 3 months warranty - how much to remove old and fit this you reckon and is it worth cutting out the cat, drilling out the bolts and reusing it?

Cheers
James

I've got a manifold and a down pipe from a 1999 2.0TS if that would help you (depends if you have a CF2 or CF3 engine). The cat's should not be damaged while removing it - the bolts may be seized and shear, but they can be drilled out if necessary. Having the whole system off will make the job easier anyway.

That leaves you with the rear section - which is about £100+P&P+VAT from online automotive. Some places may be cheaper.

I know what I'd do

Dealer Locator - Find a Powerflow Dealer.

I was quoted £430 (last month) for a full stainless steel system from downpipes up to and including backbox with a lifetime guarantee even if you sell the car on.

so much for self diagnosis, undertrays and the boys at Kwik Fit; yes there is a crack in the manifold and yes the back box is on its way out but the terrible "crack" in the downpipe turns out to be a loose air filter intake causing terrible low down noise. Agony now is whether the manifold leak is bad enough to fail an MOT......maybe welding it up would be easiest/cheapest!? Unless any of you racer/track boys and girls have a changed one out and still got a clean one in the garage?

I wouldn't recommend onlineautomotive.com - made the mistake of ordering a system for mine and the front pipe they sent out was the wrong one and the back box was damaged. Not a major problem, except they tried to blame me (despite them having my reg, chassis number and engine no) for them sending the wrong part and wanted £25 to collect it and an additional 15% restocking fee before they would send the correct part. Ended up having to go through trading standards and the credit card company before I eventually got a full refund - NOT a good company to deal with.

I've used them a few times now, and never had a problem with them...I've never been sent the wrong part though!

James,

Try buypartsby or yes4carparts ... I've used buypartsby for my front exhaust (CF2) but only just ordered a clutch from yes so can't tell on service or quality yet (clutch for Pug 206 BTW). I noticed they did the exhaust manifold/cats for 156 when browsing earlier today!

Both are actually internet shops for two established motor factors, so should be fine.

These guys might also be able to help with the rear box and rest of exhaust ... http://www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk/bosal/default.htm
