Hmmm Rebuild - running in - how much longer??

Hi everyone!

I recently had my 156's engine rebuilt. I was advised by my mechanic to keep the revs below 3000rpm for at least the 1st 500 miles. I've done well over 2000 miles now and still keeping the revs down. My question is this.... How much longer is the running-in period and when can i start opening the taps?

You could have started opening her up 1500 miles ago, these engine only need to be bedded in for a few days after rebuild, the actual first time it is started is the time that the gasket are warmed up and proven to seal, after that is just an old school thing that the car has to be run gently to heat treat the bearings, the Nitride ones in the TS engine just don't need that and are good to go as soo as you get the keys back.

Smaky, thanks!

Guess i'm just a bit nervous incase i beak it again! Only had the car 5 mins when bottom end went! Not bad going considering it had FSH (inc timing belt) and 66k on the clock!

Have to say though, it still uses oil, even after the rebuild.

maybe i'll start stretching her legs a little.

I had my 2.0TS done by Autolusso (still cant thank them enough) 3 months ago, and they advised to keep it below 3500 for the first 1000, so I did and then I added another 200 miles onto that afterwards for good measure below 3500rpm.
Have done another 1500 miles since the rebuild in 3 months and loved every minute of it, not coughs, no splutters, just heaven to me.
I dont drive like a lunatic, far from it, but it is nice to hold it in second coming off a roundabout once in a while

We built many TS engines and I would say once you have done over a thousand miles you can give it the spuds and enjoy it

These engines are designed to be used, I remember a 2.0 GTV I took in part exchange a few years ago, very nice old lady, said she had never rev’d it over 3k in all of its 30k life. I took it out and for the first time in its life gave the car a bit of stick and it blew its self to bits. These engines need using

I rebuilt mine a few months ago, within the hour she was bouncing off the red line.

Thanks for the info guys.

Want to start enjoying the capabilities of this newly rebuilt engine but scared i might damage it in the process.

My girlfriend was told when she bought her car new that she had to run it in for 5000 miles! She has got a pug 206 though.

My 156's manual says the engine is "settling" for the first 6000km.
