JTD Cambelt

Hi, Just had my 156 JTD serviced after 36000 miles and dealer has noticed signs of wear to cambelt. They have obviously advised me to replace the belt but the book says it should be replaced at 72000 miles. Is there a known problem with cambelts on the JTD, has anyone had one let go on them?

It's not especially well known on JTDs, but all modern cars are susceptible to cambelt or cambelt pulley failure. For goodness sake get it done.
When you are sat at the side of the Motorway in the middle of Winter, with a wrecked engine, you can't be saying "well, the handbook says 72,000 miles"....
The dealer also can't be held responsible if it does go now, as he has advised you about it. You could go somewhere else for a second opinion if you think they are trying to lift your leg.

Cheers, I am in the process of getting quotes and having to order the parts. A bit reluctant to take it to my local Alfa dealer who carried out the service, as it is also a Daewo dealer. I think it is the same mechanics which work on both makes but to do work on my Alfa they charge £60 an hour. I will be looking further afield and also looking at Fiat garages.

Hello to a fellow Salopian!

Right, don't bother with the Telford dealer and make sure you don't even consider Arnold Clark in Oldbury or Stourbridge - ever!

The best main dealer in the area is All Electric in Kidderminster. The service contact there is David Connolly, telephone 01562 752566. It's a bit of a trek, but you will get Alfa mechanics and an Alfa as a courtesy car.

If you don't want a main dealer then WAD Automotive in Wolverhampton has a good reputation, although I have no personal experience of them.

Good luck!
