Hi Guys

I went Euro NCAP's crash test report for Alfa 147 and I was suprised to see the results it got a 3 out of 5 rating infact I am pretty disappointed. If you see the movie that is also another upset, it gave me cold shivers just watching it, So I hope please god I will never be in an accident with my bella : 147 Crash

This has been discussed at length when the results first came out. My opinion is that Alfa Romeo should be able to design a safe car, without losing its sporting edge. Other makers can do that. And Alfa Romeo make a big deal about the safety of its cars, as much as their performance.

However having said that, the real world performance of the Alfa 147 seems better than the NCAP results would indicate. Always take care.....

Reuven, the way they do the teste might look ideal but that's nothing compared to the real world.
Besides, there's a lot of money behind this crash scenarios... so you can have an idea: is that for real or, did the Laguna had a special "preparation" for that crash test?

Talking about the 147, it's funny how after see this frontal impact he achieves full marks in side impact. Makes us think...

Personally I feel safe. It might only depends on who's driving on the other lane.

Drive safe.

Pat, certainly that helps a lot but, it's not just because of that. The structure absorbs the impact very well, I think.

Where's my coat

of course you're right wink

but i had read the report some time ago... and thats what they stated, that because of the excellent sidebags and windowbags, the 147 managed to get the highest score.

i agree of course that if the structure was weak, not even 10 sidebags will make it a safe car.

Never felt safer in a car then in my 147. Road behaviour does a lot when it comes to safety. I know few cars who can follow me in a sharp turn, xcept my colleague but then again he drives a 147 to.

grtz

To be honest, I never thought about this. I step in my car, ALWAYS wear my seatbelt AND I see to it that my passengers do too and I drive. I have to say that I had to make a couple of emergency brakes and I was impressed by the active-safety!

I was very when I saw the crash test results. It was just when I had my car for few months and keep visiting the dealer all the time to fix various problems (not that this has stopped.. )... It was a big disappointment. Euro Ncap tests may nor correspond to reality, but since a Daewoo Matiz can pass these tests, our Alfa should be able to pass too.. There is no excuse about that roof bending... Now its just a matter of luck, the speed, the angle of the crash, the other vehicle etc...

And maybe the side bags are excellent and they can protect the drivers body.. But the front airbag does not do its job and thats very bad..

Seems like the six airbags are there for marketing reasons basicly, otherwise, the front airbash should be re-designed, not to mention the car's body structure..

And dont tell me that it may be done already, if it was, AR would be the first to announce the safety improvements.

I don't look at crash tests. It's tempting fate.
Anyway, it's one of these "new" things that I can't get my head round. It wasn't so long ago that no cars had airbags, and I can remember when you didn't have to wear seat belts as compulsory. Now, everyone is "concerned" about NCAP.

If you break down on a TGV level crossing with no lights working, in the middle of the night, it doesn't matter what you are driving....
wink

I think they are lost inside modern technology.. They started creating cars with progressive energy absorption while airbags were not popular yet.. They fitted 458 airbags inside every new car, but they overdone it with energy absorption.. That 147 is tooooo absorbing damn it.. Fitting those 6 airbags in an old Lada could be safer wink

I would feel completely safe if Jordan was my passenger. NCAP tested her oversized knockers in a recent 147 test and it got 5 stars as a result.

For those vehicles from the pre-airbag era, might I suggest driving around with an inflatable sheep (or man if you're Dutch) on your lap?

wink
