147 Selespeed system software upgrade
I read in a UK car magazine that a customer in Ireland with a 156 Selespeed has been back to his Alfa dealer for software upgrades to the Selespeed system. These upgrades have allegedly made it much smoother and easier to use.
Does anyone know if there are similar software upgrades available for the 147 Selespeed system?

i had only one problem with my selespeed...
I have as a hobby the rallye (I watch ); I was climbing with my bella, going to a tarmac rallye, and the road was with deep sand and rocks... after some kilometers, I received a message on the display: AVARIA SELESPEED; I had to stop the engine, wait some minutes, and the I could start againg... the bad thing was that I blocked the entire rally for 15 minutes...

My Bella went into my dealership 3 days ago with a major selespeed problem.
The Electric Pump which you hear when you open the door was not working thus not building up hydraulic pressure in the gearbox plus every time I switched the engine on the car beeped & displayed " Selespeed System Faliure"
Reason for this to many!
But main reasons! were
a. Software
b. loose wires
Since I had my bella my main problem have been selespeed problems but on some occasions the selespeed problem turns to VDC,ABS,ASR errors! the car goes hay wire!
All have been fixed now after the 6th time!
Next time Ateco Head office here I come!
I had to add this in ! But with all the problems I have had its been worth it! I love my car ! and would not change it for the world!

Hi,
I have a 99 reg 156 Selespeed which has suffered numerous Selespeed issues.
After pump and actuator replacement, I was told that the software was updated as part of the repair. Unsure what bugs or fixes were contained therein, but some new probs came and went and now (1 year later)it's driving rather well. There was no improvement other than it worked again as before.
After a timing belt change the Selespeed system developed several leaks, (also fixed now) but I also had loose wire trouble which was also corrected.
It has give me some heart ache but is a dream to drive when working correctly. The whole system needs some refinement but it's all part of the cars character isn't it.

Reuven,
Great to hear they have sorted out your problems. Do you have any news about the software upgrade for the 147 selespeed, because I only know about the software upgrade for the 'old' 156 selespeed.

I received an SMS from my dealership this morning (22 April 2003) informing me that I should call them to arrange for a software upgrade to the 147 selespeed system. My car is a 2001 (June) model.
As usual (for Alfa) when I called them to arrange for the upgrade "Sorry sir, the parts had not yet arrived, we will call you....." (anyone know what "parts" they would need for the upgrade..?)
Makes one wonder why they SMS'd me in the first place....
Anyways, if anyone has any idea what this campaign is called and what its supposed to fix....let us know!!

Hi Shaheed,
I got the same SMS. (My car happened to be on the back of a truck on its way to the dealer in Parow when I got the message! Battery became flat yesterday and theres no way you can do anything about it other than transport it back to the dealer to replace battery! - jumpstart is out of the question) Anyway, They will do the upgrade as well tomorrow and the new parts are cables that has to be replaced. Will give feedback as soon as I know what effect upgrade has had.

Hi Marius,
What year is your 147? (I'm just wondering if the upgrade is for a specific year...?)

Just posting this message to prevent this topic from sinking to the bottom of the barrel!!
I take it from the lack of response of the continental Alfisti, that you guys have no upgrade on your selespeed system....wonder why....?

147 software update is on the way, we have a car waiting for it, according to Alfa Uk they are waiting for Alfa Italy to sort it and distribute it on disc. It will be the discs that will be used to reprogram the ecu. Last word was a matter of days.

Anyone know what issues the upgrade address. I hope they sort out the lag/delay when rolling to and intersection in 1st and then accelerating to find the clutch wont engage till the engine is at about 3500rpm causing whiplash injuries sometimes happens in 2nd too.

Was told in very technical language by the service reception "Its something to do with when the car reaches low revs and there is insufficient (battery/alternator) power to change gears or something....." So not very helpful an answer.....
As of last update (Friday 9 May) they had the parts, but the wrong software.....guess my car will have to go back AGAIN!!
Will let the forum know if
