Engine light after repairing fault

Hi guys.

Does the check engine light go off by itself after a while when the reason for the light turning on has been repaired or do I have to take it to a shop and have them delete it with a tester?
Its a 1.6 TS 120..

: Has the fault code been read and identified as well as the repair having been effected.

It has been read and identified and reset but it showed up again before I fixed it myself. The cause of the code has been repaired.. But I don't have a diag tool to reset it myself..
