Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

Hi all,

I've got a 1.6 TS, with 15" alloys, alloys same as pictures here

(2002/02)*Alfa Romeo*147*Hatch*Manual*-*£3,850 car for Sale, West Midlands, on DesperateSeller.co.uk

Factory tyres for car listsed as 195/60/R15, I currently have 205/60/R15 fitted.

I understand that by dropping the profile, I change the diameter of tyre, hence car thinks it's going a bit fasterthan it actuall is, as it counts wheel revs rather than linear distance.

Am I able to get wider tyres or lower profile tyres or both that will fit the same alloys?

Thinking about getting Vredestein Sportrac 3's, just wondering what my size options are.

Cheers,
Brian

Re: Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

The OEM 15" size for 147 is 190/60R15

The 156 however used 185/65R15 and 205/60R15

As 205/60R15 is very close in dia to the 16" 205/55R16 it will be ok on the speedo.

from that, can I conclude that I've max'd out tyre size?

Can you clarify what this means for a 15" alloy?

Can I go wider that 205, or lower profile that 60?

Re: Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

When you look at the available sizes, you will notice that the answer will be "no".

Re: Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

I have them on my 145 qv and they are crap, infact worse than crap.

Doubtless you have seen the same tests singing their praises as I did, however they are poor in the wet, washes wide, poor traction in the wet, too easily spins the inside wheel on a corner, more so than the worn Michelins that came off, and even spin in the dry and their performace when it is damp and cold is utterly useless. I could have had Chinese tyres that did all that for les than half the price.

I have had Vredestien in the past and found them to be a good tyre, but that was then, now, today they are poor and much better tyres out there.

Re: Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

205/55R15 would be even smaller in diameter than the already tiny 195/60R15

As you know, the 16" size is 205/55R16 so how do you expect 205/55R15 to work...

what I meant was that is there a constraint with my alloy that woudl stop me from going to a lower profile, i.e. it wouldn't fit.

I relaise that the tyre would have smaller diameter, hence tyre circumfereance is less, & speeedo would read higher than actual....

Re: Alfa 147 tyre sizes.

Why do you want to do this anyway?
It will fit, but that doesn't mean it is a good idea!
