Help Cam Belt Snap !!!!!

Hi everyone,

Have recently had the cam belt go on my 156, as of yet i have had no one round to look at it. Does anyone know without looking if this would have definatley damaged the valves and pistons ???
Hope it has missed but i'm sure that this must have happened to others so any advice is welcomed.

If worse case scenario and i have to look at a re-con engine anyone have any ideas how much i'm looking at paying ???

Kindest Regards,
Hope your Alfa's are all fault free

Re: Cam Belt Snap !!!!!

Sorry to say this but it has almost certainly clucked your engine ... autolusso fit recon engines and I think they charge about £1200 ... could be wrong though (give Ned a bell)

Re: Cam Belt Snap !!!!!

It will certainly have bent some valves - never seen a twinnie break a belt without bending at least a few. Would probably cost £600 - £700 to rebuild if you go down the route of rebuilt head, all new belts and tensioners, and importantly, drop the sump and swap the big end bearings. (Ignore people who say the latter is not necessary )

Also ignore Clifford above - he had a bad experience with his 147 - or from the sound of it the dealers, 'cos things weren't fixed first time - so he's thrown his dummy out.
