If they don't know that the V6 has no variator I'd avoid them like the plague no matter what the price - I'd guess they've never done one before and for sure won't have the necessary cam locking tools to do the job properly, these are specific to the Alfa Romeo 2. and 3.0 V6 engines. Take it to an Alfa specialist.

Re: v6 cambelt snap?!

I concur - I missed the word variator in association with a V6

They may make a 'town halls' of it!

if a V6 a cracking price, ask about the water pump as well though, plastic ones crack, bumps it up £80 or so plus a bit of labour

if a TS, not bad, but what about the balancer is a 2.0

if a 1.6 or 1.8, not too bad

HTH

my one is 156 selespeed 2.0, yes, £85 for waterpump. they said the waterpump is hardly leaking. They could check a well.

Re: v6 cambelt snap?!

well it cost a packet, but it'll be well worth it in the end

a water pump with steel impellors was put on, so I'm assuming it is the 3L version type.

-cambelt
-belt adj
-IIder Brg (whatever that is..)
-Water pump gasket
-water pump top gasket
-LH Cam cover gasket
-RH Cam cover gasket
-spark plugs
-water pump Assy
-corrosion inhibitor

total incl GST - $3386

They are Alfa specialist near my place which I found from internet ( PHH Approved Services Centre Surrey: Used Car Sales and MOT- Deens of Hampton Court) and I have my selespeed gear box done there. No problems so far.

Because my car has noise (like deisel) when cold or first start every day.See what I asked in the forum(http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...nee-help.html). It should be from variator. the garage mentioned it as well.I am not sure what it is.nd they will do it with the cam blet.

To be honest, I don't see the certificate from Alfa in their office. They habe peugeot and renult certificates on wall

Ah, so it is a TwinSpark then.. Just the thread title is "v6 cambelt..", I assumed you were the original poster and had a V6. Nevermind, your car does have a variator and does sound like it needs replacing.
