Good dealer (technician) service

After an unsuccessful DIY attempt at replacing a head lamp bulb on my 147 at the weekend because I'm basically useless at all things related to cars apart from cleaning them and incidentally don't want to be any better than that: I called into an Alfa dealer yesterday that I was passing (not my local one where I bought the car) and asked for them to supply and fit a bulb.

The technician fitted the bulb and asked if I'd checked the oil lately - I hadn't but don't tell Rapallo [RIP]. The technician offered to check the oil which I accepted and advised me that I could do with 0.5 litre of oil which he supplied.

When he finished the job I said "so I owe for the bulb and 0.5 litre of oil?". "No" he said, "just the bulb" I think that was good service albeit in a small way.

@coshh,

Great to here such good news. Normally the stories about Alfa dealers in the UK are about how worthless they are.

Hi Coshh,

I really envy you ! I went for my MOT on monday and failed because of the headlight beam ! The guy told me that there was absolutlely no pattern but just a blur ...

I Called the Alfa dealer around the corner who does do MOT anyway and asked him if he could have a quick look to check what went wrong.

Guess What ! "Sorry mate we're fully booked until 24th Feb." !

And the worst is that my car had been serviced with them for the last 3 years ...

So back to the AA garage who fixed it for £15.

Now that the car's warranty has expired, I'll have the next service done at an Alfa specialist, I've had enough of these main dealers !

You would go back to the garage one assumes?
in which case, he has just secured your custom at low cost.

Giving people little things free or doing it for a "drink" is how the motor trade used to be, cos with the old village garage it was all part of the service, plus doing things like that, a. gives the mechanic a good rep, b. gives you, the customer, a good impression and the feeling of good service. Which now a days is something that is laking and it really upsets me, cos if you get bad service from one place you think every place is out to rip you off!
The Bad garages that don't give a S**T give the good ones a bad name.

Right i,ve said my bit now
