JR air filter

Does anybody have a clue if they are good ?

I m thinking of replacing the factory filter with a better one (keeping the original intake pipe)

I went to ask for BMC. The guy at the local racing parts store ( ) suggested that there is no need to pay for the expensive BMC (more than € 65 ) since i ll get the same performance with the JR ( € 45 )

Any opinions about the JR ?

Thanx guys

I have just put a K&N replacement filter in with the existing pipe - to be honest you cant tell much difference performance wise, maybe a bit more responsive in 3rd gear but it sounds really kewl - give it a deeper tone when you accelerate, this alone in my opinion is worth doing it for and with replacement filters being washable you are going to save money in the long run !!!

I will try and find out if that's right, or a figment of my imagination.

Jomor,

I have a NOVITEC replacement filter. In fact, it's a King(s)Dragon (?) OEM product.

Dealer says it goes for EUR 45,= .....

Just for your info ...

Cheers

It's a CHEAP way to tune your car as it's not a very expensive part. And while you are at it you can install a K&N airfilter

I thought this was only when you change the pipe with a shorter one.

Another question.. Does the air flow sensor work for benefit or not when you install a better filter? the air flow will be better right? so the system knows that it will have more air available, how will it respond? will it adjust the mixture with more fuel or not?

I have a JR airfilter installed in the Sportwagon (Selespeed). It is installed in the factory airbox. Using the filter alone, there's very little difference in terms of power and throttle response. However, using it with an aftermarket exhaust, you can feel the improved throttle response and acceleration, especially at higher speeds or RPM.

I also have a K&N filter in my 156 2.0 T-Spark. There's very little between the two brands.

Personally, K&N or any paper-based filtration is the one to go for. Those HKS or ones with 'sponge-like' texture, they tend to break apart easier under prolonged use and excessive heat. That means the bits can fall off and get sucked into the engine.

Yes baby, yes baby, yes!

I just got the JR filter , i cant see anything tonight, so i m fitting it 2morrow morning. wink

My friend just put it at his Punto too, and the difference in sound and performance is noticable. I wish this goes for my bella too

Part number is F 310135, cost is 45 €. No cleaning kit included, thats why its cheaper, but is oiled - ready to fit, so no need for a cleaning kit for the time being.

Btw, Supersports with F1s are on their way, clear (or white?) indicators are next. Yes!

(why am i feeling like a little kid in front of Santa, its only an air filter... )

I will!

I was looking at the Workshop cd about the air filter replacing procedure, it was too complicated!

Disconnecting negative pole of battery, removing the air flow meter connector, removing the recirculation pipe, removing two connection rings, pull up the pipe-filterbox, undo the two bolts of the filter cover and change the filter....

I told all these to a friend who is a Fiat mechanic (worked many Alfas though) and coundnt stop laughing.. "its a two minutes job" he said... i just have to lift the car up, get underneath, undo the two bolts at the filterbox and replace the filter. Good thing that Greek Alfas have no engine cover undeneath

you got a replacement filter right? not a conefilter or something similar?</strong><hr /></blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Neither. No extra noticable bhp, no special sound improvement, i can tell the sound is a bit wilder, if you are not familiar with the original sound though, you cant tell. The sound difference exists but its small and only the owner can tell. Its only an owners joy wink

No extra power imo, the car might have 1 or 2 bhp more, but who can tell the difference of 120 and 121bhp ???

BUT, the car FEELS different, the throttle response is more accurate and you have the feeling that the engine obeys your orders. It feels that it had cought a cold in its nose from the first day of ownership and couldnt breath easily, and now its gone!

Its more an improvement in the feeling than in 0-100km/h. But that is more important imo, the feeling you get when you drive.

Hugo, Patric, are you still breathing through paper filter? Go for it! Why on hell i didnt replace it earlier.. Its cheaper (no replacement) and its better Even if you wont be able to feel the difference, do it for the money wink

I didnt change the filter box, only the filter element. I disagree with filter kits that suck hotter air than the original. I could do something like Paulo's but i should have to move the alarm, and i dont wanna put the alarm in a hotter area either. I m thinking of modifying the original filter box, try to open the silencer chambers (if there are any) the filter box has, at the area near the wing. But i wanna do a little research about it first (as usual )
