Should i wait for the 157?

Hi!

For 6 months I have been wanting to buy a brand new 156 JTS Sportwagon. But then i started thinking. What if the 157 SW looks even better...? I mean, the 156 is almost 6 years and still looks beautiful, but will it look as good when the 157 is on the marked? Does anyone know if Alfa will release the Sportwagon together with the sedan? I have heard May 2004. Have also seen some drawings, but i recon the productionmodel will differ quite a lot?

What to do? Go for the 156 or wait 1 1/2 years for the brand new 157?

Best regards Frankie

Totally agree, get rid of the Ford, buy yourself a used Sportwagon, and wait in that one instead. We might have to wait some time for the 157, and who knows if it's going to be even AS beautiful as the current 156's?

I read that the proposed designs for the 157 (as seen on several websites) have been rejected by Alfa's top management, which will result in a delay in the launch of the 157.

I think it's more likely to be 2005.

Nareman.

When ever you buy a new car, there's always something just over the horizon! I have just got a new 156 Sportwagon JTD. I am thrilled with it, and I ordered loads of options to get it just how I want. I now hear there will be a 20 valve six speed version coming next year with 170bhp, and an additional facelift. This is BEFORE the 157 comes 2004/5. I would buy now - maybe a used one, and then see what happens. Otherwise you will wait for ever - I felt like I did as mine was 4 months factory order!!!
Enjoy the website !!

Buy a 156 now and then wait for the 158.

Hello,

agree with most of you.

You should take it this way - you only live once so more thing you experience the better to you. I've had so far about 10 cars and so far have managed to avoid doubling (eg 2 Fords in a row or whatever) but in case of Alfa it's going to be difficult

cheers,
T

Hmmm, I waited more than a year to have the new model 156 and it really is very long!! They promis a new model and keep delaying and delaying it. So you have a good chance that they will delay the 157 even further.

You could wait though for the SECOND facelift of the 156 in 2003. It will get a 'nose' similar to that of the 147. At the same time the Sprint will be introduced. So if you prefer the 156 front to that of the 147 buy one now, if you like the 147's version wait a little longer (8 months?) or buy a secondhand SW to enjoy a sensation of utter happiness each day when driving to work

Fiat has a lot of financial problems. Because of this most new models won't come out due to the ack of money to introduce new cars. This probably means you have to wait till 2005 before the 157 is launched.

My advice: get rid of the focus and buy the 156 now. So you can already get infected by the Alfa virus.

I was going to wait for 157 instead of changing my 156 next year, but now I've heard Alfa designers have been told to go back to the drawingboard with their 157 proposal I think I'll change it and spend 3yrs in a 147. Hopefully by then the 157 will be out and sorted. Hell, the 157 could be fugly and not worth the wait, the 156 is a tough act to follow.

Thanks a lot guys!
Have anyone else besides Latino heard about the new front for the 156 in 2003? And what about color? Is the Alfared hard to keep nice?

Yes - I have heard of the 147 style front end facelift too. I think it was in the Owners Club magazine (UK) and in a couple of the car mags. Not too thrilled about the prospect myself as I adore the current 156 front with the "Monza" style slots around the grill. See

The facelift will coincide with the revised engines too, but I am sure it will all run horribly late as usual.
Alfa Red is wonderful to keep clean - I have had it on two cars now and it polishes up wonderfully!
Happy Shopping!

New models: 147 GTA and Sprint
New engines: JTD 16v and 147 2.0 JTS
Facelift: 166

I don't think 1.6 & 1.8 JTS are far behind either (if the money holds out!).
My gut feeling is don't wait, just get stuck in there and enjoy it!
