Smelly Air-con

Once I turn on my air-con , its smell like **** at beginning but disappear a little afterward. If I turn the air-con off, just leave the fan on. It's much worse.

Has anyone experience that? any method to get rid of that "****" smell?

I have read that it is caused by a build-up of bacteria in the aircon system. Apparently you can get rid of it/keep it away by running your aircon at maximum temperature for ten minutes then minimum temperature for ten minutes once a week. I haven't tried it, but it has to be worth a go.

This smell gets worse when you turn the engine off while air con is working. You must turn off the air con 2 - 3 minutes (turn off the compressor, leave the fan on) before you park your car and switch off the engine. This prevents those "bacterias" grow and keeps your system clean. It works.

Maybe your aircon filter needs to be replaced also.

you can also get a spray that you can spray in the air intake which does work quite well and kills off the bacteria.

If you smoke in the car in can be horrendous - switch the air con off and open the window in this case!

Running it on hot then cold also works quite well as if dries out the smelly wet bacteria and kills it off temporarily - but you have to do this quite often to maintain it.
