Bonnet recall

Got a bonnet catch recall notice yesterday for my 2001 156. Anyone else had one.

Re: Bonnet recall

It is just to clean & lubricate the catch (something that you should be doing anyway) and to tell you how to close the bonnet properly.

They keep sending the letters out, but they still don't get to every owner.

Re: Bonnet recall

Everyone in the UK has had one. Do not waste time. It costs you nothing for the work and is just the inconvenience of time. It needs to be checked every 20K.

I was fortunate enough to see a 156 pulled up on the motorway just outside Monaco 3 weeks ago with a smashed bonnet, windscreen and roof because his catch failed. I say fortunate because it reminds me to push to get mine recalled here in France

Its too late when its too late...

Not "everyone".
I've never had the letter and I've owned the car from new.

Re: Bonnet recall

I had my old sportwgon recalled at least a year ago. My catch was definitly faulty and I have heard some horror motorway stories.
You should get it checked anyway just for peace of mind.

Re: Bonnet recall

It's not really a faulty catch problem either is it? I thought it is caused by lack of maintainance.

Re: Bonnet recall

I had a recall letter about 3 years ago got it dont straight away took it to leicester. Few days later somebody I no was on the A1 in his 156 his bonnet flew up and his car was written off luckily he managed to slow down and pull over safely. Smashed windscreen and roof insurance payed out but they never pay out a resonable figure.

Re: Bonnet recall

I was one of those horror motorway stories and I never got the letter - I was lucky to get out without a scratch but my 156 V6 was a total loss - bonnet windscreen and roof all smashed, I was going about 80 when it happened
