Shortening standard TS gearstick

I recently drove a 146 and it had a much shorter gearstick than my 156 and felt a lot better. I'm sure the throw was similar but the shaft itself was a couple of inches shorter.

Having a quick search I've found threads about shortening the lift up reverse sticks on the V6s, but nothing about the Twinsparks.

Has anyone done it?

Re: Shortening standard TS gearstick

on a ts it will probably be a simple case of remove knob cut shaft with metal saw refit knob, i may be wrong tho! take the knob off and see how its fixed in place, if it has any splines etc it will be more complex

Excellent

How is the knob attached to the shaft? Is it a case of mashing the old old to get it off and then epoxing a new one to the cut end?

Re: Shortening standard TS gearstick

Murph - I just cut my old gear knob off - cut the stick and then put a momo one on. The grub screws on the bottom help keep it on perfectly.

Re: Shortening standard TS gearstick

if it's the same as the 147 then here's my How-to for removal:
dbadged.net • Irelands Online "Euro" Car Enthusiast Forum

when putting a new knob on, if the gear lever is too thin in circumfrence for the screws to grip, then just wrap some electrical tape around the required bit of the gearknob and then the screws will grip onto that

Re: Shortening standard TS gearstick

Shortened mine last year as old gearnob was worn so cut it off then noticed could chop some off so did and would electrical tape around then got universal one with grub screws at bottom.
Miles better
