Crazed My Car Temperature Is Always On 0

My cars temperature always stays on 0, and isnever at the half way mark, like when I am in my sisters car.

Sometimes it will go up to 5, 10 or 15, but never to the half way (50 I think) mark.

Why is this, please?

Thanks

Re: My Car Temperature Is Always On 0

you need a new thermostat.

(fyi, half way on the gauge is "90 degC", which is the perfect running temperature)

But, as we all know, your engine is not going to last much longer, so don't bother fixing it.

(or you are just taking the ****...)

Persoannaly I'd check the condition of the wiring, if that proved to be OK then I would look at the temp sender. If the engine was siting at the 1/4 mark on the gauge or droping right off when moving then I would suggest the thermostat too, but this doesn't sound like that, so like I said, look at the wiring and do some continuity checks, they are flimsy wires and break easy, if it's held on by one strand then the voltage will not push the guage up high enough.

This guy is taking the ****, every thread he starts is the same. Strange nosies, no oil pressure, no engine temp and his 'mate' wants to put a v8 or something stupid in 'their' 147.

Ambition is what we all should have, no matter how crazy an idea. I think a twin V6 would absoloutly dominate the motoring world but just don't have the time to do it.... YET!!!

Re: My Car Temperature Is Always On 0

If the needle never moves, i would have the wiring looked at first. If this returns nothing, then the temperature sender is probably kaputt... as far as I know this is part of the thermostat (might be wrong on that, so don't take it as gospel!!). In that case, it will be a new thermostat you'll be needing. An hour long job if you are reasonably competent with a spanner. If not, £70 or £80 will see you straight with an independant Alfa Specialst

Re: My Car Temperature Is Always On 0

Just for info the temp sensor screws into the thermostat and can be changed on its own without removing the stat.

See this:http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/engin...twinspark.html (How to: Change a thermostat on a twinspark.)

For some pics

In step 5 you will see my sausage finger pointing at the old temp sensor and a red arrow to where it lives on the new thermostat.
