156 alram query - second beep

Guys,

My lovely 156 has decided that it will make a second beep when locking just recently. Now i had this a while back an discovered the bonnet was not closed fully.

It beeps twice when locking then around 5 seconds later it give another beep. i've checked the doors, boot and bonnet and they all seem to be closed correctly.

Is there another reason why it will beep again?

Its a 2004 jtd sportswagon.

cheers

Re: 156 alram query - second beep

I had a similar problem on a different car which turned out to be a bonnet sensor giving an open signal even though it was closed-a squirt of WD40 later-no problem. I'm also minded that when I bought my 156 (salloon) it was missing the trim off the boot catch (since replaced) but I noticed that there was a micro-switch inside which I presume is connected to the alarm but could prove vulnerable to slamming onto a large object in the boot-could it be that the sportwagon has a similar design and could it be that this has occurred?

Hi PRIMUS. My first 156 used to do it sometimes and if i went back to it opened and closed all the doors and boot then locked it, it usually sorted it out. I sold the car soon after so that solved that for me!

Hi Primus,

I have the same model and year as you, and mine does this at odd times too! I just open it and re-lock it again which always seems to do the trick - have never been able to discover the cause.

OMG!! Guys, this is a signal to say something is not shut correctly. With the history the 156 has, CHECK YOUR BONNETS!! If you get this, pop your bonnet, open fully, then SLAM shut again. That will cure it. Do not ignore it!!!!!!

Re: 156 alram query - second beep

Open each door in turn and manually hold in the button, press the blipper to lock the doors, if the 3rd beep stops then you have the offending button, if not then you'll have to unscrew the switch an pop it out to break the circuit and blip again. Like you say though, it's normally the bonnet switch.

Re: 156 alram query - second beep

I also have an 04 2.4 JTD Sportwagon and it has exactly the same problem and it happens every time I lock the car. I've had the car about a month and it has done it right from the start.

I'll do the suggested checks. I have had the bonnet up a few times, but knowing of the bonnet horror stories I always give it a good slam and then check it. Whereabouts does the bonnet switch actually live?
