Aircon compressor ok but no cold air

Sorry for yet another aircon thread but I have been reading all the other threads and no-one seems to have a similar problem.

I do not get any cold air from my aircon. I have checked the metal "disc" on the end of the pulley on the compressor and can see it start to spin when I press the Aircon button (as well as hearing a loud click). So I assume that the compressor is engaging ok (which in turn means pressure and outside temp meet the necessary conditions).

I have also had the dash out and can see the movement of the white plastic paddle when I select different vents on the climate control panel, so assume the movement of the vanes in the air vents is ok.

The climate control panel seems ok, when I change the temp. selected the fan speed and vents change automatically.

I felt the air con pipes near the compressor and neither get cold.

Can anyone think why the compressor would engage yet not get any cold air?

Thanks.

Is the gas charged up correctly?

Re: Aircon compressor ok but no cold air

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yep, forgot to say. Had in in at an Alfa stealer who checked the gas and said it was ok but then wanted to start ripping the dash out with no guarantee that the work would be covered by the warranty. Hence the start of my DIY activities!

If the gas wasn't upto charge, wouldn't the pressure sensor prevent the compressor from receiving any current though?

Take it in to a proper A/C specialist ... it might have enough gas to allow the compressor to run, but still be down and not cool effectively.

Yeh, may be coming to that conclusion. Is there a chance that the compressor is faulty, event though I hear the click and see it spinning?

I was hoping that if I diagnosed it myself, if it was something covered by the warranty, I could get it done by Alfa dealer.

Re: Aircon compressor ok but no cold air

Hey johnnygal, my GT had this problem one day when my daughter switched on the A/C and it felt cool but not cold. I asked my local dealer to check it out and he noticed that my timing belt was making contact with one of the A/C pipes which had caused the coupling at the end of the pipe to come away slightly. Result no gas!! Thank god he checked this otherwise a snapped timing belt could have led to much worse so check the condition of the belt and the connections of the pipes, otherwise I would take gazza's advice. Cheers .

I too have the same problem. My air con does not work at all... The hot and the cold... would this be because I am missing a cap or is it because I need to do an aircon recharge for the hot and for the cold?

thanks

Having no gas will not result in a failure to get hot air. This sounds like a more fundamental problem with your fan/vents/controls?

I have the same issue. No cold. I topped up the gas and nearly froze my fingers off but still no cold...

Re: Aircon compressor ok but no cold air

it is the valves or the variators which have gone... they need to be replaced.
