Re: alfa tax

That sounds right to me mate. They aren't the cleanest of engines. Think there's very little difference between the 1.6 and 2.0L, they might even be in the same band but can't say for certain. I know the 1.8 is currently £205 for the year.

Re: alfa tax

2000 2.0ts is £180-the advantage of having a pre March 2001 car.

Wifes BMW goes from £185 to £300 next year!

Re: alfa tax

We're taxed to the hilt over here in Ireland.

My 1.6 147 cost me €390 (£312) last time and next renewal I'm going to be hit with €430 (£344). Thieving government!

Ye don't see to do that bad in comparison.

Re: alfa tax

I'm sure you guys probably already know this, but if your road tax is up soon. The best thing to do is Pay for 6 months now (anytime before september) and when it comes to renew, pay for a full year because this means you will be paying pre April 2009 prices for a full year.

Then when April 2010 comes along you will be renewing just before this, so you'll be paying last years increase instead of the new rates which increase every year at april time.

That sounded right in my head, but if it doesn't just have a look at the parkers link above ^^^^^^ and I'm sure you will get what I mean.

Re: alfa tax

my cars vin say's it was manufactured in march 2000 and it is on a "w" reg but on the registration document it says april 2001 so i'm in a high tax band next year and not the pre april 2001 £185 pound one. how can this be?

That is a bloody good idea ... I just hope that when I renewed mine for a year it was back in Feb ... (although I have a horrible feeling that it was later than that )

awwwwww unlucky buddy,

Someone posted on here (first post I ever read on this site ) last month that if you sorn the car and ask to be refunded the remainder of the tax, but only sorn it for 1-2 days just before the end of march then after you've done this you can pay for the years tax and get the old rates. (apparently this can all be done quite swiftly online and you don't need to be sorned for too long)

Apparently it is very legal as, as far as the gov knows you could have came into money at that exact point. But the only thing is I think someone was saying that the gov might cotton on to this idea before the tax goes up and stop it happening, but if you can do without the car for a day, then its a bloody good idea. Perfectly legal

reg date not build date that counts.

im in same boat - 2000 build but sep 2001 reg = more tax

Remember that you don't have to use the current reg on a new car, you can use any previous.

But a March 2000 build would be Euro2 spec. Euro3 came along in Sept 2000. It would be VERY odd for a Euro2 spec car to have been registered "new" in April 2001. I thought they had to be Euro3 by then.

Re: alfa tax

Mine just cost me £185 for the year. It was registered in Jan 2001, so it looks like it's just sneaked into the cheaper band by a couple of months...saving me £255 a year after April 2010. Blimey.

Did I get discount over the counter? I have a V reg 156 selespeed and a receipt for £101.75 for 6 months tax.
