Alfa GT leak
Has anyone suffered any leaking around the doors or windows on their Alfa GT?
I have a late 2004 car which had a leak when I bought it earlier this year. The garage had three attempts to fix it back in April, finally doing so by fitting a new seal around the drivers door.
That seemed to sort it and it has been fine, but with the extreme rain and wind this week the problem has returned. The garage have the car back, and are taking the line that "even cars that don't suffer leaking can be affected by severe rain". Their solution now is adjusting the drivers door window.
The passenger side of the car has never leaked and has stayed dry despite the conditions. Would be interested to hear if any other people have had problems, how it was sorted etc - I can foresee future problems! Any comments, even if your car has been fine, would be appreciated

I'd be asking them to replace the head lining as well

Have you had any work doen to solve the problem and if so how successful was it? My dealer has just used more sealant on the rubber seal but we have not had any heavy rain since then to see if its worked.

Re: Alfa GT leak
WARNING for all GT users:
iI just saw a GT (V6) in my brothers garage with enormous electronic damage due to a leak in the front windscreen , it leaked straight on a connector to the ecu which in time started a short circuit which started to lock the doors over and over again. resulting in burned out door release motors. A new cable loom was necessary ! which meant stripping the total innards of the cars interior , dash ,console floormatting you name it !!
it is a warantee case, but may cost over 4000 quid...

Re: Alfa GT leak
Hi, just discovered this on mine with the heavy rain from Monday night. Did you get any further with a solution. If so, can you drop another picture of exactly where you think the leak is (top rear of front door?). I am going to investigate mine further this weekend.

Re: Alfa GT leak
Not at the momnet. But I recon it will eventually with all of the auto window movement rubbing against the rubber seals everytime you open/close the doors.

Re: Alfa GT leak
Mine has a small leak on the passenger door, no where near that bad but then I guess these things get worse.

Its sorted now, the drivers door rubber was replaced. That said, the first repair sorted normal rain but it needed another go as it came back during really heavy wind and rain more sealant!).
I am pretty sure the point of entry was the top corner of the drivers door window - thats where the dampness started inside before it started to spread down towards the tailgate.
I am also told that adjusting the windows is possible rather than going to the extent the garage did with mine. Only problem is that hoses, pressure washers never made an impact - I had to wait for the rain before I know if any repair was OK.
Hope you get it sorted soon - its a nightmare coming out after rain (often) fearing the worst - I still do a bit now!

Re: Alfa GT leak
Come to think of it, mine leaks in by the floor. Although there is ridiculous wind noise which seems to be coming from the top of the window.

Re: Alfa GT leak
My GT is with the dealer right now having the same leak fixed - driver's side, seems to get wet from around top of the seatbelt area, and the water spreads in both directions along the roof lining. Have had about 3 leaks, first one in July at 2.5 years old. Like, Nelly, water tests (x3) didn't work, and having stripped the roof lining off, the dealer's determined it's the door seal causing the prob (maybe after I suggested they should read this thread?!). They are replacing the roof lining too - stained but not as bad as Nelly's.

Re: Alfa GT leak
i have a leak - different place though as per the photo. Had a new regulator fitted under warranty but it hasn't made any difference. Only leaks when it's being washed with a pressure hose, not leaked when raining yet -fingers crossed - very annoying though

Re: Alfa GT leak
That is bad, the dealer has three atempts to repair it, if these fail you can demand a refund
If you bought it new that is

Re: Alfa GT leak
Bought it used, and the dealer (an independant specialist) had four goes at it - in fairness they we're very prompt, I got a courtesey car the same day at the drop of a hat but even so it was frustrating.
The car was just over three years old when I got it...am fairly certain the previous owner knew about it and that was the reason they got shot of. Does seem to be an issue with the cars of this age - I think Stevienicknacks might have a point about the contstant window rubbing - the passenger side has been fine.

Well, had a look today PM. Got the wife to sit in the car whilst I soaked the outside with the hose. Took 10 minutes or so, but then started to seep in around the B -pillar - so am fairly certain that it the same as Nelly9000, coming in from top rear of door.
I then pulled the door rubber off in that area, and looks like the previous owner must have had the same issue - as there was a bit of putty in the top corner in the gap where rear window meets.
The headlining in that area is profiled such that you can see into it when the door rubber is removed; you can see the sound deadening. I think this must be where the water is leaking into. I've tried to block it up, all I had was blue tac, so used this.
I also had clear silicone sealant which I put under the rubber before putting it back on. Also filled the area where the putty was.
Leaving it to cure and will probably just wait until the next rain to see if its fixed.

Mine leaks in the same place when pressure washed, and only on the driver's side. Not quite as extensive though.

Re: Alfa GT leak
Well I have a new GT cloverleaf Q2.. 1600 on the clock and it has just started to leak.. going back to dealer tomorrow. The leak pools in the front passenger door well where it says "alfa romeo".. bloody annoying as its brand new, and the pool swills back and forth as I brake and drive etc..
I had a GTV prior and had no leaks on that and that was 8 years old! This must be a design fault?! I mean they dont get UK rain in Italy!!
