No Power

With this being my first alfa (156 swagon) i dont know if this is common. It has very poor acceleration from start and when first changing gear but once it gets going it is quite rapid, any ideas or is this the norm, Its a a 1.8ts on a 51 plate.

Re: No Power

It is a high revving engine, so you may find that you are not using enough revs when pulling away. My 2.0 TS Sport Wagon really kicks in at 3200 revs. Feels more like a turbo kicking in.

What were you driving before. Its just possible you're used to a car with different characteristics.

Re: No Power

I also have a 1.8 16v vectra and i thought the alfa would be just as quick on take off but it aint. Like you said it does kick in about 3000rpm and then goes like a turbo has been booted.

I'm sure the alfa would be quicker.

Perhaps you have a problem... the MAF is ok I presume? You aren't getting any drop in power after 4000 RPM?

Re: No Power

i find the 2l TS suprisingly slow off the mark (compared to when floored in motion) so im not suprised you feel likewise.

16v's are all slow starters, and the alfa TS engine needs more revs than most

30-60 is a whole lot better than 0-30

Re: No Power

just want to add to this, my 156 seems to almost die when she's first started up recently, coming off clutch and changing into first to accelerate she really flats out (drops right to 1k revs) then picks up, beyond 2k she flies and when warmed up this doesnt happen at all - suggestions?
