Whining...

..when accelerating, very odd. It carries on if I take it out of gear (so hopefully that means it's not related to the gear box) and is more prevelent if I give it some welly. Just started this afternoon

Wheel bearing possibly?

Can't quite figure out exactly where it's coming from, almost as if it's underneath the car (though that could be my hearing)

I did have a similar noise (not exactly the same) coming from the tyres a while back. They were wearing badly at the time. I currently have a brand new set of rubber, so doubtful if that's the answer.
Any suggestions greatfully received

I had the nearside bearing replaced some time ago, but that didn't make quite the same sound from memory.

Re: Whining...

Sounds like it MIGHT be turbo related
No loss of performance, or smoke but the noise is coming from that area. Can hear it better inside the car which is odd.

Fingers crossed it's a leak somewhere, but could be the bearings in the unit. I guess replacement of these is possible

Any ideas what I'm looking at for a turbo refurb?

Re: Whining...

Just passed 73k

This (if it is a big repair) will be on top of a snapped cam belt @60k and knackered fuel injectors just recently.

Kind of getting to the point when I want to swap it for something else.
Obviously a Friday afternoon car, but I've never had so much poor luck with a motor.

Been to the body shop twice, a van removed the nearside back quarter panel, then a week after I got it back, a car caved in the other side. in all I was without it for 12 weeks whilst it was repaired. (Alfa don't stock major panels for GTs, both times they had to ship in an entire new side)
