Bmw 1 series & 147 TS 2.0

I test drove the 118i, i found it to be basic interms of the interior(radio) aircon, steering wheel controls and i didnt like that fact that the rear windows are manual. Its plastic bits are pilling off and its newer than my 147 which looks so much better than the BMW.I dont mind the car, its just that its only 95kw(then again i wont be driving it much). The suspension however is good.It has ranflats.

This is not to say it will be replacing the 147.It will be an addition. If i buy it.

Manual windows?

Thought they didn't make those in 2008 production cars.

Re: Bmw 1 series & 147 TS 2.0

I went from a 147TS to a 120D SE, and have to say the BMW was a cracking car with massive cornering ability in comparison to the 147, huge economy and aceleration.
Downside was loads on the road and poor ride on runflats.

BMW

Even the ashtray/cig lighter is an option these days.
"Smoker's Pack" they call it.

Re: Bmw 1 series & 147 TS 2.0

my 8yo 2l TS proved better off the lights than a spanking new 120d yesterday.

ok, not a glamarous car, but BMW 2.Od is one of their best engines, and with the torque of diesel i would have expected a doing tbh. the same bmw engine pulls 5 series, soo it must be powerful enough.

The BMW wasn't trying. There is no way on earth a 147TS can live with a 120D in the performance stakes.

im in a 156, and he defo was trying

it was a sprint from lights to a carriage way, up a steep slip road - why the diesel torque from the BMW didnt come through i dont know - guess it kept dying at about 4k revs and he had to keep changing up

Sorry not a chance.

The 120D 0-60 is in the region of 7.6s 156/147 are nowhere near. He wasn't trying or he missed a gear. They rev to about 4500 but 1st gear is short.

Re: Bmw 1 series & 147 TS 2.0

Not a huuuge difference in performance really,
from 60-100mph the 120d is only 0.7s of a second quicker.
It would have a great off-the-line start for those who care about that sort of carry on

Anyway driver error is worth a lot!

20.3s 0-160kph bmw
22.0s 0-160kph tspark
7.6s 0-100kph bmw
8.6s 0-100kph tspark

Who cares if the 120d is faster than a 147? The 1 series BMW is plug ugly. You would need to be moving quickly to avoid people laughing at it.

Have you seen a 1 coupe on the road yet? Much better looking than the hatch, and its pretty much exactly the same proportions as the original E30 coupe

The coupe looks much better and that 123d is a cracking engine.

Re: Bmw 1 series & 147 TS 2.0

The coupe does look a lot better, I will admit. It's a shame the current crop of beemers do have questionable styling, as they are great cars. I don't think I could ever own a 4 cylinder one though.
