Worth breaking/salvaging?

Hi,

A garage near me has a W-reg 156 1.8TS with a seized engine (it overheated). I was thinking about acquiring it to break, but they're wanting £500 for it (before haggling) which I think it way too much.

It's got a nice leather interior and 16" wheels (which are starting to show their age a bit). New tyres all round.

Anyone care to offer a comment about what to do with it? Alternatively, if anyone's got a replacement engine they don't want....

Here are some pics. It was a bit boxed in, so they're not so good... It looks like the engine's missing some parts, or they've been taken off during the post-mortem...

Cheers,

Iain

Re: Worth breaking/salvaging?

It apparently overheated due to a burst radiator hose. I don't know the extent of the damage, but the diagnosis of the mechanic began with the letter 'F'....

Re: Worth breaking/salvaging?

I wouldn't mind repairing it, if it wasn't going to cost me overall than buying a running one. That's including hire of engine hoist etc. I don't mind putting the time in...I love tinkering with cars!

But Car (£500) + Engine (£???) looks like it'll be more than it's worth, which is a shame as it's very nice otherwise.

Re: Worth breaking/salvaging?

you could get a an engine with a cam belt failed and swap the heads and make sure you change the crank shells...
sounds not a bad project...

Its worth more in parts than that, I can see why the want £500 for it as they should easily get £700 or so breaking it.
