Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

It has become apparent to me that there is some confusion as to what a replacement key for a 147/156/gt etc should cost and how one can get one.

Well I need one so I am going to check with the local suppliers to N/W London (Perrys Amersham, Desira Finchley, Alfarama, etc.) tomorrow and get back.

If anyone else has any knowledge, experience or is prepared to do similar to me and report back maybe we can all get a result!

It may be worth travelling if the saving is significant!

Best

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

It varies by dealer.

I called up my local dealer and was told £105 for the key and £15 for the programming code excluding vat.

I went to my local parts place who said £110 for the key and £10 for the code excluding vat, apparently that is the price as listed in Eper and he was confused as to where the dealership were getting their pricing.

Programming is a bit of a nightmare because they'll charge you for an hours time to do it even though it takes 2 minutes. I got mine done for £20 by my local indy, which I thought was fair considering.

Edit: Apparently the keys all have to come from Italy so expect a 3 day wait for them, and when I ordered mine it took them 3 trys to get it right (first key they'd sent for the wrong chassis number despite being faxed the logbook, and the second one was only half cut).

So who were these guys in Croyden?

This below is from another thread and what prompted me to start this one.

Perhaps Arcus can also let us know who and where his quoters were. £100 difference could make it worth the trip!

The dealer I called was Wilsons of Epsom and the parts shop was Ricambio, who are no longer there (ebay only).

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

Hi Mate

I rang my local "specialist" (Fiat garage) about a previous 156 I was looking at and was quoted £170 + VAT plus 2 hours workshop time to reprogramme the new key to the vehicles existing ECU.

I think I was having my leg lifted there, so be careful.

Regards

Adam

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

I think all the prices will vary but i £180-£190 isnt a bad avarage, its one of those cost that most people will need to bear if they want piece of mind, knowing that you have a spare key in your PANT draw.

I had a key from Eric Ashmoles of Swansea, about 2 years ago and if was £168 all in...

I bought a car from a used car dealer and it only came with one key, so i sent the previous owner a letter asking him if he had it. I didnt get a reply (after about 3 months) so i went and bought a new key...
Two weeks after having the new key a small package arrived through the door with the second key from the previous owner so now i had 3... Was a little gutted...

It could be worth sending the previous owner a letter with a phone number and see what happens, even if they have a knackered key as long as you get the blade the rest of the key can be bought of ebay and you can make a new key for youself and get it reprogrammed to the car or vice versa...

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

I paid Mangoletsi around £190 for a new key and the programming - overall worth it, because I only had 1 key that only operated maunually

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

Blank keys pop up on ebay occasionally, is it possible to get a decent key cutter to copy the blade from an existing key and then get the electronic gubbins side of it coded to the car by Alfa?

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

You will have to have BOTH keys recoded ... actually they code the CAR to see the keys. If you only have one available, it will lose any existing codes in the process.

I guess that would be possible in theory but there are too many variables and too few guarantees for my liking.

N/W London

Desira were the cheapest quote, but it was very vague. "Abaht £50 - £60 for the key and £40 for the programming. Might be a bit more". Required to see the V5 for the Chassis Number. So that's a minimum of £117.50 with VAT (Probably a BIT more!).

Perrys Amersham were far more precise quoting £117.40 for the Key, £11.00 for the code card and labour of £21 (1/4 Hr) to programme, all plus VAT total = £176.13. They need the V5 and two other forms of ID plus any spare keys.

Alfarama quoted £117.50 for the key, £14.50 for the card, £68.00 to programme (1 hour), all plus VAT and the same ID requirements as Perrys. Total £235.00

Velocés told me an all in price of £180 + VAT totalling £211.50 and again the same ID requirements.

Now I think that Desira will realise that the Key is £117 odd plus the VAT if I go there!!

I do have the old owner address so I shall try that route first!

Paulus

I HOPE WE GET AWAY WITH THIS!

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

Just been to AMC in Chelmsford, they quoted £185 including vat. Something like £127 for the key and the rest for re-programming.

The look on my face suggested she was extracting the urine as the woman behind the service desk said "it is quite expensive isn't it".

No sh*t Sherlock!

You could read this for some very recent information on my costs. Not your area though and definitely not cost effective

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...ml#post1897616 (Can this be true - ECU / Key problem.)

Good luck !

Do it now my friend. I was going to get round to getting a spare then lost the key. Painful experience. Get yourself to the stealers tomorrow.

Re: Keys New Replacement Damaged Lost

I paid £95 supplied, cut and coded 3 years ago, so I'd guess £120-£130 is a reasonable price. They should also give you the keycode. When I got mine from a Fiat dealer, they had the key in stock, then cut it off my original, and then added the code to it from the keycode that they got from Alfa by fax. I don't think the key needs to be sourced from Italy as I ordered mine by phone on a Friday afternoon, and went to get it done the saturday morning!
