vic test

I have to put my alfa 156 through a vic test. Before I do this I have to list details in why it was a 'cat c'. I was told it was engine damage when I bought it, but just to make sure I paid for an hpi check to find out exactly what damage was done....... the report came back stating it is 'cat c'. I know that. lol.
Anybody able to find out details the damage done.

Have you tried to contact the previous owner shown on the log book?

Re: vic test

I am not sure about how to find out what damage was done, but I am pretty sure it wouldn't have been put as a total loss insurance claim because of an engine fault. I certainly haven't heard of it happening before.

Its probably had a small bump, or has been stolen then recovered after the insurance had paid out.

If you really want to find out about body repairs etc, get the RAC or AA to inspect it.

Re: vic test

Just put engine damage down then. Its possible say if the sump got damaged leaked all the oil and killed the engine. They dont seem to care much anyhow at VIC test centres. After all they are only to confirm it is the car (ie not a ringer or two welded together) you are trying to get documents for. VIC tests do not confirm the quality of any repairs carried out and a basicly a five min in and out job

sorry maybe wasn't clear enough. The engine was totally b******d. Alfa quoted £2500 for a new engine so I suppose that and the time to fit would be more than the car is worth.
Just trying to find out more history.

Re: vic test

I repaired loads of bmw e30's which i had to get vic checks done. One was a bmw 318is that some had damaged the sump so the insurance company made it a total loss. I put a sump on it got a new mot booked it in for a vic check drove it 45 miles to get it checked 20 mins later had a letter from them sent it to dvla and a week later had a new log book but it does state at the bottom of log book that car has had a vic check. I had to change engine 2 months later as it went bang thats why the insurance company would only put a new engine in. It was ok because i had got a bmw 325i sport with all the toy's on it [cat'b' breaker only]. Fitted all the 325 parts on it and lowered it with 18" on it. 6 months later a mate said he want my bmw and put £2000 in my hand.

Re: vic test

It could have been that it gulped a large puddle and fubar'd the engine with no bodywork damage, but still an insurance job.
